Our feeling is that this product is aimed more at the “entry level, everyday Joe” than serious bodybuilders or obese people. We found it a little longwinded and complicated book that absorbs a lot of time talking about other people’s end results and complicated research information, which is honestly a little irritating and irrelevant to weight loss or muscle gain.

The book is broken up into 4 different goals that at first glance appears a little contradictory. They are:

  • Focused fat loss for overweight people
  • Focused muscle gain for skinny people
  • Fat loss as priority with muscle gain as secondary goal
  • Muscle gain as priority with fat loss as secondary aim

The book does break down his research and how to implement it in real life, but again it seems a little too in depth and focused on the research and not fat loss or muscle gain. On the other hand, he (the author, Tom Venuto) gives important information about post and re-workout nutrition and the strategies to help gain muscle and recovery. He also talks about daily nutrition and eating habits (carb cycling?) etc.

Right at the end he finally gets to the part everyone is most interested in, and that’s training. He does seem to favour cardio over weight training as a fat loss strategy, but does not neglect the importance of working with weights.
